London College of Fashion student and trained saddler Christina Hamilton riffs on saddle form and function for her MA Fashion Artefact project with these Saddle Panniers. Hamilton’s approach takes a long view, from the displacement of the horse as transportation to the current return to the bicycle as an alternative to the car.
The saddle panniers can also be carried as accessories off the bike: “Much as the traveller of the past needed a good saddle, today’s commuter needs to transport their belonging but then be able to walk into the boardroom in style with possessions that reflect their status.” Pair with riding boots and helmet, perhaps?
