First Ladies at the Washington International Horse Show
“Horse shows are so political” takes on new meaning at the historic Washington International Horse Show – held in Washington, D.C. and one of the few remaining urban indoor championship shows in the United States. As we’re quite partial to nostalgic horse show photos, Dappled Grey was thrilled to partner with WIHS to peek into the photo archives for a look at at the styles of the Presidential first ladies and political royalty who have attended and performed ceremonial duties at the show over the years. This year’s show – held October 23- 28 – will be its 54th season.

Not a first lady, the gorgeously gloved Alice Roosevelt Longworth (Teddy's daughter) is greeted by the dapper Colonel Rene Studler. (A bit Violet Crawley, no?)
A horsewoman herself and picture perfect as always, Jackie Kennedy Onassis in a signature suit and pearls
With her gracious smile, Betty Ford enjoys the black tie ceremonies in an evening suit and scarf
No stranger to the saddle, the petite and ultra-tailored Nancy Reagan greets Zsa Zsa Gabor in 1988
One more Jackie... our patron saint of equestrian style.
