USA’s London 2012 Opening Ceremony Uniforms by Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren Team USA Olympic Opening Ceremony Uniforms

The look is more “Love Boat” than London 2012 and, yes – we’re not joking - these are the official Team USA uniforms for the Olympic opening ceremonies.

What happened, Ralph? You are our hero, the pioneer of American equestrian chic, not some Project Runway hack. If Tim Gunn had visited your workroom, he would certainly have warned you: “I’m concerned.” If you had to present these pieces to Heidi, we have no doubt she would utter those heartless words: “You’re out.” (And we don’t even want to know what Michael Kors would have to say.)

WTF?

Berets and bobby sox? It’s just all so unfortunate. There is a whole consumer Olympic collection on the RalphLauren.com website and some of the pieces are actually quite sporty and cute – like this zip-up jacket, bag, and polo shirt.

I have to say now after seeing the opening ceremony, that the berets looked way too military inspired. Intentional or not.. But for me as European it looked kind of wierd considering wider political context.

    Very nice uniforms.

Anyone have a problem with the ribbons on the beret (other than the beret itself, which is unfortunate). The ribbon colors, if described front-to-back, would be Blue, White, Red…the colors of the FRENCH flag!! Maybe the Chinese manufacturer sewed them backwards, instead of the U.S. “Red, White, and Blue”. Sorry, RL, this is a total fail.

Much furor over the fact that the uniforms were made in China…it can be difficult to source materials in the US (believe me, I know, ) but manufacturing the uniforms in the US should have been a priority; the irony of Lauren’s All-American style (actually based on Brit posh…) isn’t lost.

Wow, the consumer version is so much better. What the heck, Ralph?!

WTF indeed… the ribbon accent on the cap is actually placed on there so that its representative of the FRENCH flag (blue, white, red). So tragic.
