For each horse, Houndstooth curries out the rough seams with sandpaper, conditions the coat with primer, and then applies a finishing layer of chalkboard paint. Each horse comes with three pieces of chalk and is ready to be decorated by its new owner. A simple wipe down with a damp cloth is the only grooming needed to create a blank slate for each new design.

The horses come in a variety of breeds and poses and all look darling decorated with whimsical tack, lists and reminders, or good wishes. We think several grouped together and adorned with a favorite quote would make a great art installation in the equestrian home.

Dear readers,

Please don’t buy them all before we have the chance to get one!

Love, DG

I know this is an old post, but I saw your Facebook post on it, and ordered two for some girls at the barn who already have EVERYTHING! And they were a HUGE hit! If you missed getting a present for someone, and can't figure out what to get, these are absolutely gorgeous! And the seller could not be nicer! The only problem is the hours it took me to pick the right horses for each of the girls....there are soooo many choices. Enjoy shopping!

What a beautiful idea! Young horse lovers and their parents could write notes back and forth by changing the note when the other isnt around. I love the resourcefulness of this idea, as well as giving these tattered girls a new life. Cindy

thank you thank you thank you for featuring these horses! i bought one and was so delighted with it that i purchased several more as gifts (ok, and maybe one more for me). the artist is one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet, btw. this is such wonderful means of re-purposing old breyer horses.

Thank you for featuring my chalkboard horses, DG! Glad you guys like them. I use mine daily to write notes, to make lists, to doodle on while I am on the phone. They are really quite functional and look great just as a nice charcoal/black matte horse...almost sculptural. And almost as good as the original Breyer! I have a hard time painting over the original handiwork as well, but I *only* take those that have a lot of missing paint, too many dings and scratches, or those that were painted over by another person. I actually end up keeping 65% of those that I find and add them to my herd! My large collection has gotten LARGER! I am having a Christmas in July sale, if anyone is interested in them. What a great idea! A fabulous way to revamp those horse bodies that aren't in pristine condition. And so cute for that little horse lover in your life!

What a clever idea! Sounds like a "must have!"

I recently gave a stable-full of my old Breyer horses to my niece. I LOVE chalkboard paint, and these repurposed ones look awesome - I don't know if I could bring myself to paint over the present handiwork. Maybe. . .
