In our first post about iPhone applications for the sport horse industry, we promised to update our readers as new apps became available. Naturally, we’re thrilled to announce that the Canadian company EquiApps.com has just launched EquiTests, the first application to help riders learn and practice FEI dressage tests.
FEI EquiTests is an extremely robust application, with a clear and inviting screen aesthetic. The app has a number of very useful features, including written test instructions and marking criteria, animated tests performed on an arena diagram, score sheets, rule book PDFs, and an FEI discipline-based news feed.
The first application, FEI EquiTests 1, is free and offers all the features for one sample test – the FEI Young Riders Individual Competition Test. FEI EquiTests 2 ($9.99 via Apple iTunes store) covers 10 FEI Eventing dressage tests. EquiApps plans to release versions covering the FEI Dressage and Para-Equestrian tests in 2010.
FEI EquiTests, in our opinion, has real potential to support rider learning. Our favorite feature is the animated diagrams, perfect for those (ourselves included) who identify as “visual learners.” Audial learners will love the recording/playback feature, which allows riders to record a reading of the test instructions, including training reminders.
We also love that EquiApps.com has listened to our and other user feedback in adding the Rule Book feature. For users interested in non-FEI tests, EquiApps.com is currently working with the FEI and other country level governing organizations (like USEF) to bring the lower level dressage and eventing dressage tests to the iPhone and iPod Touch. If there’s enough interest, they’ll be creating the applications for other devices like the Blackberry and Android too.
Watch the EquiTests video orientation and download both apps here. We also have a great interview with EquiApps.com founder, dressage rider, and all-around equestrian entrepreneur Tanya Heins.

What a great idea! Is there a French version?
Grey Horse Apps have also brought out a range of new iPhone and Android Apps as well, and are now listed in the top 900 educational apps in the iPhone App store! Blog, and more info on our website: http://www.greyhorseapps.com
When will the app be ready for blackberry’s??? Great Idea I love It!
Eventing app will be out in about six weeks. :)
Love the kur drawing idea. Toooooo little time.
When will the app for eventing be ready?
It’d be real neat if it had an option or an app that lets you “draw” in tests for creating Kurs/freestyles, and then remembers them for you.
Great idea! Hope NZ jumps on the bandwagon.
The regular USEF dressage tests are now available. EquiApps.com has just launched USEF Equitests 1 – Dressage tests in the app store – http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/usef-equitests-1-dressage/id368384108?mt=8
What about the regular dressage tests??
We’re working toward Android and Blackberry. We hear ya!
FEI EquiTests 3 was updated today with all the FEI Dressage competition tests in one app.
What about us Droid users?? We ride, too!!
Thanks Dappled Grey for this article. Just wanted to post an update with news that FEI EquiTests 3 has launched. This collection of tests is suitable for younger FEI Dressage riders – includes all the latest FEI Young Rider, Junior, Children and Pony dressage tests.
But they both come up nicely when searching using iTunes!
Wow. This looks great. When I search apps for “dressage” using my iphone, I get only the free option – just heads up in case they want to adjust anything for the download.
