From Dappled Grey’s personal wish list… Maybe it’s the generation we come from, but watching Greg Best ride his horse of a lifetime, Gem Twist, at the 1988 Seoul Olympics is one of the defining equestrian images of our youth.
Many might not know that, after his successes with Gem, Greg relocated to New Zealand where he and Kim Zander operate Silverstream Farm. Greg is now primarily a coach and clinician, including coaching for the New Zealand team at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
The week-long homestay program at Silverstream offers guests the opportunity to stay at the 1000 acre farm, located in beautiful Otane, Central Hawkes Bay. Depending on the program, visitors take 1-2 lessons per day from Greg, who is known for his no-nonsense yet patient teaching style. Oh and did we mention, Silverstream is also a breeding farm and offers horses of all ages and abilities for sale?
You can also ride with Greg stateside, as he conducts clinics across the U.S. from May-September, but we think the opportunity to explore New Zealand and ride with a legendary Olympian sounds like more fun, don’t you?
