War Horse

War_horse Each year's end is replete with "best of" lists in every category imaginable, and we were thrilled to see the hit West End stage play "War Horse" named the best play of not only the year but the DECADE by the Times Online (UK).

War Horse, adapted from a novel by Michael Morpurgo, tells the story of a young boy and his horse, separated and dramatically impacted by World War I. The equestrian-themed play has gained critical acclaim for its riveting and emotional use of life size horse puppets, whose creators have won an Olivier award for design.

Having only seen excerpts of the puppets that circulated via You Tube, we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of War Horse in New York in 2011, where British and American producers are currently looking for a Broadway theater that is large enough to host the show.

And...on December 16 it was announced that Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks Pictures have acquired the novel and a major motion picture is in the works. Stay tuned!

UPDATE: It has been confirmed that War Horse will open at New York's Lincoln Center on March 17, 2011. Read the report here and more about the Lincoln Center production in the New York Times.
