Keefer lives and works out of Seaview, Washington, on the Long Beach peninsula. She had a horse in Arizona as a teenager and, as a young woman, lived her dream riding under the Big Sky as a wrangler at a dude/cattle ranch in Montana.
Now mother to a budding young event rider, Keefer has developed an extensive body of equine images while spending hours of weekly lesson time at the barn with her daughter. Although she was once primarily a photographer and filmmaker, Keefer currently creates original art in just about any medium that suits the project at hand. Many of her pieces incorporate found objects, such as old windows, dress patterns, and a spanish language bible, among other things.
We love Anna Lee Keefer’s horse art for its Pop Art/Surrealist feel combined with her “horse country” roots. Her gift for the juxtaposition of curious images, like a bridle-less vaquera and a wind turbine, is well demonstrated in one of our favorite pieces, “Sonic Wind on the Crystal Frontier.”

Anna Lee Keefer is the most talented and wonderful human being I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.
I want that top painting of the horse heads. Is it for sale?
